🤔 Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about battery adoption—and maybe a few things you haven’t thought to ask yet.

⸝

🪫 What exactly am I adopting?

You’re adopting a genuine Tesla EV battery pack—usually from a Model Y or Model 3—that’s been safely retired from life on the road. These packs still have years of high-performance energy storage left in them, and instead of heading to recycling, they’re ready for a calmer life powering your home or business.

⸝

🔋 How big are these batteries?

Big. Most of our packs are around 60–80 kWh, which is 4 to 5 times the capacity of a Powerwall. That’s enough to run a home for a few days, charge an EV, or support a small business during a blackout.

⸝

🧪 How do I know it’s safe and healthy?

Great question—and we’re fussy about it too. Every battery is:
• Individually tested
• Comes with a full health report
• Retains the original Tesla Battery Management System (BMS)
• Assessed for physical condition and electrical integrity
You’ll know the exact state of the battery you’re adopting—no guesswork.

⸝

🔧 Can these batteries be connected to the grid?

Well it depends on your local electricity distributor. We have been approved by Energex (Brisbane and SE Queensland network) for grid tired installations that include exporting.
We supply the required documentation for the connection application.

⸝

🧰 Do you install the system?

We work with a trusted network of licensed solar and battery installers who are familiar with our systems. If you don’t already have an installer, we’ll connect you with someone who knows what they’re doing and can handle everything from inverter upgrades to compliance with AS/NZS 5139.

⸝

🔌 Will this work with my current solar system?

It depends on your setup! If you already have a hybrid-compatible inverter, you’re halfway there. If not, we can help recommend an inverter upgrade (like a Fronius GEN24) that integrates perfectly with our system.

⸝

⚡ Can I go off-grid?

Absolutely—many adopters are using our batteries to achieve full or near-off-grid living, especially in rural and semi-rural areas. Just keep in mind that total off-grid depends on your solar size, backup loads, and energy habits. We’ll help you figure out what’s realistic for your site.

⸝

💸 Can I get a rebate or government grant?

At this stage, our batteries aren’t eligible for government rebates because they’re second-life and not on the CEC-approved battery list. But here’s the thing: even without the rebate, our systems often deliver more storage at a lower total cost than new retail batteries.

⸝

🏷️ How much does it cost?

Each battery is unique and has its own story to tell. Although all batteries are tested and ready to join your family we price the batteries based on condition, we can find a battery that will fit your budget. A ballpark price is $15,000 battery + $2000 stand.

⸝

🔁 Can I adopt more than one?

Yes! Dual-battery setups are possible, and we’re currently refining the best way to integrate multiple packs safely and efficiently. If you’ve got serious storage needs (like charging multiple EVs), let’s talk.

⸝

🐶 Why “adopt” a battery?

Because we believe these batteries still have a lot to give—and deserve a second chance at a useful life. You’re not just buying hardware; you’re rescuing premium tech and giving it a calm, productive retirement from the road.

Moreover, adopting a battery is a green choice. Reusing these batteries significantly reduces the CO2 emissions associated with extracting raw materials for new batteries. For instance, creating a 60 kW battery emits approximately 8 to 12 tonnes of CO2. By giving them a second life, you help conserve natural resources, minimize environmental impact, and support global efforts to combat climate change.

⸝

📱 How will I be able to see the battery charge and access information?

Most of the day-to-day information—like your battery charge level, solar production, and power usage—can be viewed directly in your inverter’s mobile app. This gives you a simple, real-time view of what’s happening with your system, whether you’re at home or away. For those who want to dive a bit deeper, we also provide access to a web-based battery interface, which shows more technical data like:
• Cell voltage spread
• Pack temperature
• State of charge
• CAN system status
This interface is accessible via Wi-Fi when you’re near the battery, and is most useful for troubleshooting or detailed diagnostics. So whether you’re a casual energy user or a data nerd, there’s a way to keep an eye on your adopted battery.
